When we are children we love to play games with others. We all wait anxiously our turn to play, to shine, to try. Everyone is given a turn. If someone wanted to get more turns than others an adult would intervene and lovingly say, “Now-now kids, that’s not fair.”

They risked everything. Gave all they had. Endured smugglers, rough seas, hunger, sickness and death. Some even made it. Only to be kept out. Blocked. Kicked. Battered. Humiliated. Walls have been put up. Trains stalled. Gates closed. Xenophobia turned to full blast. The Syrian refugee crisis isn’t a third world problem. It isn’t a Europe problem. It’s a human problem. But there’s hope.

This idea was born after a number of conservative groups loudly opposed allowing Syrian refugees into the United States. The same group is considered to have the largest Christian followers in the country.  This print campaign was timed with the upcoming Christian holidays. At first glance, all headlines seemed to be mirroring biblical images. However, all headlines were retrieved from real newscast stories about Syrian refugees.

Surely, we all know someone who suffers from Princess Syndrome. A girl who suffers from PS lives life as a fairy-tale: focusing only on the pretty things, putting herself as the center of the universe, and obsessing about her looks. It can be fun and whimsical when a girl is a toddler, it can also set the tone for how she develops into a young woman, influencing her self-esteem, her dependence on others, how she takes care of herself and how empowered she feels in her life.

Expecting girls, at age 3, 4, or 5 to understand that life is better if you have solid values, good friends and a healthy lifestyle, in comparison to the princess lifestyle, is unrealistic.

When describing a Dahon Bikes, the consensus dictates the unavoidable: “They are ugly.” Ok, they are not conventional looking bikes, so what? They are awesome, and reliable, and practical… we all can agree on that. The Dahon spirit is not one who would cry on hidden corners. The Dahon spirit is fun, adventurous, and smart. The truth those who are reject the unconventional are simply missing out.
